This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of Medical Education Collaborative, Inc. Purpose Statement

The purpose of this activity is to provide clinicians treating HIV- and hepatitis-positive patients with an effective educational program in a succinct and incremental format on the complex topic of viral resistance that takes into account the evolving nature of the science while providing clinically-relevant information.

 

 

Target Audience

The program is intended for all healthcare providers treating HIV- and hepatitis-positive patients, especially those who are seeking clinically-relevant and comprehensive information on viral resistance.

 

 

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify trends in the transmission of drug-resistant HIV and implications for antiretroviral therapy.

  • Describe data on compounds from investigational antiretroviral drug classes and implications for the current and future treatment of HIV.

  • Provide a base of knowledge from which the newest advances in resistance testing can be understood.

  • Describe clinically-relevant results of clinical trials involving treatment-experienced patients.

  • Classify mechanisms of HIV (and HBV) drug resistance.

Instructions for Credit

There are no fees for participating in or receiving credit for this educational activity. This activity was devleoped to be completed within the time designated on the title page; physicians should claim only those credits that reflect the time actually spent in the activity. To successfully earn credit, participants must complete the activity online during the valid credit period that is noted on above and on the title page.

Follow these steps to earn CME:

  1. Read the target audience, learning objectives, and faculty disclosures.

  2. Study the educational content online or printed out.

  3. Online, choose the best answer to each test question. You many also print out and return the completed test to toll-free fax 800-407-2505.

  4. To receive a certificate, participants must score at least a 70% on the post test and submit it along with the credit application and evaluation form to the address/fax number indicated.  Statements of credit will be mailed within 6-8 weeks following the program.
