Purpose
Statement
The purpose of this activity is to provide clinicians treating HIV-
and hepatitis-positive patients with an effective educational
program in a succinct and incremental format on the complex topic of
viral resistance that takes into account the evolving nature of the
science while providing clinically-relevant information.
Target Audience
The program is intended for all healthcare providers treating HIV-
and hepatitis-positive patients, especially those who are seeking
clinically-relevant and comprehensive information on viral
resistance.
Learning
Objectives
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be
able to:

Describe the historical perspective to current data on HIV drug
resistance.
·
Discuss various factors that contribute to the development of HIV
drug resistance.
·
Interpret data on the incidence and extent of transmitted HIV
drug resistance.
·
Explain the rationale of the utility of HIV drug-resistance
testing.

Credit
There are no fees for participating in or receiving credit for this
educational activity. This activity was developed to be completed
within the time designated on the title page; physicians should
claim only those credits that reflect the time actually spent in the
activity. To successfully earn credit, participants must complete
the activity online during the valid credit period that is noted on
